Seether

Seether’s origins can be traced back to a band called Saron Gas, who formed in Pretoria, South Africa, and performed at parties, nightclubs, small-scale concerts and university venues, releasing their first album, “Fragile” on Musketeer Records in 2000. The success of this LP resulted in the band signing to Wind-up Records, who asked the band to change their name (Saron Gas was deemed too close to sarin gas, a deadly nerve agent). Thus Seether was chosen, and second album “Disclaimer” was released in 2002. Prior to recording their third album, Seether were asked to support Evanescence on a worldwide tour, on which they reworked the ballad "Broken" with Evanescence’s Amy Lee sharing vocal duties with Shaun Morgan. The song, along with a new song entitled "Sold Me", was featured on the soundtrack for the 2004 film “The Punisher”, and brought the band recognition and success in the US, the UK and Australia. “Disclaimer II”, an alternate version of the original album with many of the songs remixed or re-recorded, as well as 8 extra tracks, was released in late 2004.

In 2005, the band released their follow-up album “Karma and Effect”, which debuted at number 8 of the US Billboard 200, and was certified gold in the US and Canada. First single from the album, "Remedy", reached number 1 on the US Mainstream Rock Chart. The band also released an acoustic CD/DVD set entitled “One Cold Night”, recorded in February 2006 at Grape Street in Philadelphia. In June 2006, it was announced via Seether’s official site that lead guitarist Pat Callahan had chosen to leave the band, the exact reason for his departure is unknown.

"Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces", produced by Howard Benson and released in October 2007, debuted at number 9 in the Billboard 200, selling 57,000 copies in the first week. First single “Fake It” topped both the US Mainstream Rock and Modern Rock charts for at least 9 weeks, and second single “Rise Above” made number 2 and number 1 on the Mainstream and Modern Rock charts respectively. In February 2008, Troy McLawhorn of Dark New Day joined the band as a touring guitarist, eventually becoming an official member, joining Morgan (vocals and rhythm guitar), Dale Stewart (bass) and drummer John Humphrey.

Seether have sold 5 million albums worldwide.
