Kasabian

Artist: Kasabian

Album Released: September, 2004

Review by Dan:

I believe indie/rock outfit Kasabian take their name from Linda Kasabian, a member of the Charles Manson family. The swaggering, Mancunian-esque vocals of lead singer Tom Meighan, part Liam Gallagher, part Ian Brown, coupled with some electronic beats and some brutal bass riffs are all features of the debut album from these Leicestershire lads. The menacing, chest-beating “Club Foot” opens proceedings, followed by “Processed Beats”, which is the Stone Roses reborn. The simple foundation to “Reason is Treason” makes it the stand out track for me, but also worth a mention is the Tarzan-like wailing in “Cutt Off”, which is actually quite good, and the busy instrumental “Ovary Stripe”, almost symphonic in places. The only thing I don’t like on the album is that it contains 2 ‘interludes’, both pointless and needless on an otherwise excellent first salvo from the Kasabian machine.
