Review by Craig:

I spent many years in South Africa growing up and living through all the political changes, and as South Africa began to grow as a nation, its musical talents grew with it. Just Jinjer are an excellent example of this, their 1st album is simply amazing and completely shows their musical nous. Art Matthews and his fellow band members have really come up with the goods on this album. “Shallow Waters” has to be one of my favourite tracks; the words show what lengths people go to in order to be with the one they love. “All Comes Round” is a remarkable track, the words really make you think what life must be like, living as a bum on the streets; this song really inspires me to reach greater heights. Another song that properly put Just Jinjer on the musical map was “Father & Farther”, a great track off this highly recommendable album. I’ve been fortunate enough to have seen Just Jinjer live in London and they really rocked and put on a first class performance - if you ever get the chance to see this band live, grab it with both hands.

Review by Dan:

South African four piece Just Jinjer were originally formed in 1996. “All Comes Round” is their 1st album, a hefty 16 tracks amounting to over an hour of catchy tunes and heartfelt ballads. My first impression was ‘Oh, they’re like Counting Crows’ as the first four pop-rock type songs revealed themselves. However, “Pretty One” shows a darker, moodier, Pearl Jam-esque side, heavier guitars complete with a decent solo, serious rock territory. What with the mysterious bass in “All Ways”, and considering “Traffic Light Blues” wouldn’t sound out of place on a jazz compilation, this album serves to highlight their range of talents. I enjoyed listening to this CD and am keen to get hold of some more of Just Jinjer.
