And Love Said No – 1997 – 2004
Artist: HIM
Album Released: March, 2004
Review by Dan:
The CD sleeve of this best of collection from HIM (His Infernal Majesty) has a slightly Gothic appearance, and suggests that it’s an album possessing some seriously heavy music. However, this Finnish quintet have managed to splice together prominent guitars and tender vocals, and have come up with their own take on music – ‘love metal’. As lead singer Ville Valo, who resembles a young Johnny Depp, weaves his obvious vocal talent through the album, this love metal begins to make an impression on you, and the strange combination is actually pretty good. There are 2 covers on the album, Neil Diamond’s “Solitary Man”, sung with attitude, and the Chris Isaak classic, “Wicked Game”, which Valo delivers in a very sexy, emotional way. This is an excellent example of how rock music can be chilled.
