Review by Dan:

Debut album from a very British band with a very British sound that’s hard to categorize. I picked up a hint of ska running throughout, moulded around a sound that borders on yobbish rock (“Tied Up Too Tight” and “Feltham Is Singing Out” being two good examples) that’s also very pumped up (like my favourite, “Living For The Weekend”). Excellent lyrically, the song words display a suburban awareness that The Clash would’ve been proud of, whilst at the same time covering love gained and lost, war, drugs, crime, and even a lack of cash. As a listener you enjoy captivating riffs in “Gotta Reason”, a little reggae in “Better Do Better”, and lead vocalist Richard Archer sounding like Coldplay’s Chris Martin when referring to the youth of today in the title track. The lads also show that a sensitive ballad is not beyond them with the sincere, piano and trumpet backed “Move On Now”. As a debut, this is “Hard To Beat”.
