The Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager

Artist: Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly

Album Released: September, 2006

Review by Dan:

Fresh debut album from Southend’s new prodigy Sam Duckworth, aka Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, which marries a strong lyrical content with acoustic busking and some subtle, laptop inspired electronica. Initially melancholic, with opener “Once More With Feeling” urging the listener to ‘…don’t let it get you down’ to the backing of a sad sax (similar to Dire Straits’ “Why Worry?”), the listener is soon enlivened by the funky, quick beats of “An Oak Tree”. Glastonbury favourite “I Spy”, with the lighters-in-the-air vocal ‘face in the crowd, if you don’t care then why are you singing out’, and the cutting social commentary of “Whitewash is Brainwash”, a brief analysis of what British society has become, are the pillars of “The Chronicles...”, although there are many strong aspects, such as popular single “Call Me Ishmael”, and the majestic, Editors style middle eight in “War of the Worlds”. In all honesty, I’d struggle to describe any of it as ‘filler’. Oh, and the inlay card is superbly designed, as is the website.
Understandable, friendly, at times irritated but always melodic, I found that GC.WC.F offers some impressive stuff.
