Bleed Like Me
Artist: Garbage
Album Released: March, 2005
Review by Craig:
I began listening to this rather interesting release from Garbage while flying at 39,000 feet, not quite the appropriate place for this sort of album. It really got me jiving in my seat and I saw the person next to me wondering what I was up to…. Shirley Manson is an amazing vocalist, her powerful voice really does Garbage justice. There’s a great mix of rocky tracks and some wonderful ballads, “Bleed Like Me” is an album that sure as hell grows on you and you really find yourself enjoying it. Look out for the opening track “Bad Boyfriend” which features Dave Grohl on the drums. Whether you’re a Garbage fan or not I would recommend this album, I really enjoyed the sound, the whole collection of songs.
Review by Dan:
Once a figment of the imagination due to a temporary break up, Garbage's 4th album appears to suggest that Shirley Manson and co have never been away, despite a 4 year absence from the music fold. “Bleed Like Me” is an album that’s odds on to attract new Garbage fans, whilst also being a type of self counselling session for the group. You can sense the melancholic Manson exercising herself of a few past ghosts as she treads carefully through the title track, her beautiful delivery of “It’s All Over But The Crying” suggesting that the former was a successful exercise. Ex Nirvana producer cum Garbage stalwart Butch Vig hauls Dave Grohl in to look after the drums on the threateningly suggestive opening track “Bad Boyfriend”, “Boys Wanna Fight” is a dabble with some good old 80’s retro rock, and the demanding “Why Do You Love Me” stuck in my head as soon as I heard it. This album reminded me why I liked Garbage nearly a decade ago, indeed, the mischievous Manson may even make a reappearance in my top 10……..
