Hours
Artist: Funeral For A Friend
Album Released: June, 2005
Review by Craig:
If you thought “Casually Dressed & Deep In Conversation” was an excellent album, this is better. “Hours” is totally mind blowing, yes the Welsh have a new band that they can be truly proud of, and Welsh hardcore rock is alive and well. These guys have put a lot of passion into their second offering. Stand out track “Streetcar” starts off with a great bit of guitar string and then in comes the thumping beats of the drums, these guys are alive. Like my review of Funeral For A Friend's debut, “Casually Dressed & Deep In Conversation”, it’s very difficult to pick favourites off the album, but all I can say is keep listening to these 11 tracks, these guys totally rock, keep it coming.
Review by Dan:
Released in June 2005 and produced by Terry Date (Deftones, Limp Bizkit), “Hours” is much more negative and much darker than their debut, a fact underlined immediately by the urgency and aggression produced by opener “All The Rage”, and Matt Davies stating he’s “.. sick and tired, of always being the good guy”. “Roses For The Dead” is sung as part of a telephone call, and continues the blistering pace of “Hours”, which is slowed temporarily by “Drive”, beautifully structured, and probably my pick, along with the rocking “Monsters”, which restores the frenetic pace of the riff laden album. Whilst the savage, Pantera like “The End Of Nothing” is a brief nod back to their heavier debut, this contrasts with the appearance of synths and a drum machine on the last track “Sonny” , which may signal a change of direction in the future. However, despite presenting a more mature sounding FFAF than the animal we found on “Casually...”, there isn’t a bad song on “Hours” and it represents a strong sophomore offering.
