You Could Have It So Much Better

Artist: Franz Ferdinand

Album Released: October, 2005

Review by Dan:

Mercury Music Prize winners, Ivor Novello award winners, Brit and MTV award winners – it’s hard to believe that Scottish art-rockers Franz Ferdinand are only just treating us to their second long player. Building on their debut, the confidence they inevitably gained from its success shows throughout the tracks. The pulsing, bouncy “Do You Want To” borders on a raucous carnival, and is one of many buoyant, rhythmic rockers to get your teeth into, others being “You’re The Reason I’m Leaving” and the attitude laden “I’m Your Villain”. “Well That Was Easy” possesses a musical about-turn in its midst reminiscent of “Take Me Out” (from their first album), and I also enjoyed the malingering bass in “Walk Away”. Influence-wise, “Evil And A Heathen” has a White Stripes rawness about it, and “Eleanor Put Your Boots On” immediately made me draw parallels with The Beatles, but the question is, are FF a modern day Fab Four?
