Corinne Bailey Rae

Artist: Corinne Bailey Rae

Album Released: February, 2006

Review by Dan:

Allow yourself half an hour relaxing on your sofa and getting involved in the unassuming, chilled out grooves of Corinne Bailey Rae. Introducing her initially drowsy voiced self with the dreamy “Like A Star”, Corinne develops into a sound which is not too dissimilar to a less excitable Alicia Keys, particularly in “Til It Happens To You” and “Breathless”. On the other hand, she could be a candidate for the lead role in Morcheeba, should Daisy Martey ever fancy a break. I enjoyed the accompaniments that Corinne uses, particularly the strings on “Call Me When You Get This” and the trio of saxophones on the funky “I’d Like To”. My one criticism would be that, although somewhat playful, “Put Your Records On” could be mistaken as a debut single for an all-new-artificially-formed girl band. Other than that, this is an agreeable self titled debut from the lass from Leeds.
