Cassette

This band is hot. Cassette were winners of the 2007 South African Music Award (SAMA) for "Best Rock Album", and nominated for 2 other categories (including "Best Group/Duo"). They've had smash hit singles on South African radio and have performed and recorded with international African celebrities such as The Mahotella Queens, Vusi Mahlasela and the Grammy Award winning Soweto Gospel Choir. They have been labelled “One of the most exciting live bands in Africa” by Johannesburg Live. All of these accolades have resulted alongside their debut album, "Welcome Back To Earth".

The band formed in 2005 and have quickly risen to be one of the heavyweight bands in South Africa. Their secret? Not only their memorable live performances that evoke memories of greats such as James Brown, Elvis and the Rolling Stones, but more importantly, their focus and dedication to the craft of song-writing. This has been proved over and over again with 5 hit songs off their debut album that have charted all across the country. In addition their debut single, "Your Star", was entered into an Unsigned Demo competition on one of London’s biggest radio stations, XFM, the same competition that launched supergroup Keane, into the UK. "Your Star" won the competition, beating entrants from around the world.

Cassette are electrifying on stage. The interaction between the members of the band is intense – a blend of polished practice and spontaneity. Cassette just works. It's rare to find a band that gives so much to an audience – they can be spellbinding, humorous and personal all at the same time. Their moves are reminiscent of the truly great rockers and, with their distinctive style, they bring a fresh exciting energy to the international music industry.

They are fortunate enough to have the support of 2 record labels - Sony/BMG represent the band in South Africa and the ever-growing successful indie label Sheer has taken on Cassette for the rest of the world.
