Tourist

Artist: Athlete

Album Released: January, 2005

Review by Dan:

“Tourist” is the eagerly anticipated follow up to Athlete’s debut long player, "Vehicles and Animals", and the boys appear to have continued from where they left off. Joel Pott’s pronounced vocals are delivered in such a way that they give the listener the impression he’s thinking about them all the time. The piano backing to the powerful “Wires” is simple but effective, and I’m sure I can hear sleigh bells in my favourite, “Modern Mafia”. I felt a touch of irony listening to the title track, particularly considering my love of travel, as it doesn’t contain any of the excitement I feel about being a tourist. However Athlete’s sound is relaxed, honest and mature, and I for one am keen for the next instalment.
