Tripping The Velvet
Artist: Annie Minogue Band
Album Released: October, 2006
Review by Craig:
Being from the Southern Hemisphere (South Africa before you start calling me names), you kind of associate the name Minogue with cheesy pop (or as most people would class it, pop), so as I carefully slipped AMB’s CD into my laptop and uploaded the tracks to my iPod, I was a bit apprehensive as to what I was about to hear. Bearing in mind I hadn’t read much on AMB, so I was going in blind. Wow! I was blown away by the sounds that were transfixed upon my ears, smooth riffs and clear vocals, good old school rock and roll at its very best, you would have to look really hard to find that this is an independent release, as the quality is rockblowing. I enjoyed Annie’s vocals, very different from what you hear today on the radio, they can be very feminine at times, but beware of the masculine side of them which comes back at you with a huff, keeping you interested in the music. Spot on!
“Tripping The Velvet” is one of these albums where it’s hard to get into it the first time, but trust me things do get much better with age and believe me, the more you play this album the more you going to rock to it.
It’s difficult to pick favourites off this remarkable piece of work, the lyrics are sharp and very
poetic, do take the time to read the lyrics inside the album cover, it’s like picking up a book of poetry.
If it’s something old school and rock n roll that you looking for then this is one album to get your hands on. AMB rock out, rockblowing album...
