Get Rich Or Die Tryin'
Artist: 50 Cent
Album Released: February, 2003
Review by Dan:
Debut album from Curtis Jackson, a.k.a. rapper 50 Cent, kicks off with an intro where the listener hears a coin dropped, and a gun loaded – an appropriate beginning considering the album title. Executively produced by rap icons Eminem and Dr Dre, the stand out tracks for me would be the authorative “In Da Club”, possessing an infectious beat, and a memorable chorus of ‘hey shorty, it’s your birthday’. I also enjoyed listening to Cent meander through “P.I.M.P.”, as well as the electronic start to “Blood Hound”. In addition to some guest appearances by some members of his G-Unit crowd, Cent enlists the help of Nate Dogg on “21 Questions”, and the aptly named “Patiently Waiting”, slow and deliberate, features Eminem, as does “Don’t Push Me”. An ex boxer, 50 Cent is well on the way to becoming a heavyweight of the rap and hip hop world.
